Inaugural STARTER-AI Workshop 2024, supported by NSF, NIH, and NVIDIA
Welcome to STARTER: South Texas AI Research, Training, and Education Resources
The Power of Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence (AI) has the power to transform various aspects of our lives, from work and learning to leisure activities. With deep neural network models, AI can analyze data and understand complex patterns. These models have proven their effectiveness in tasks like identifying images and understanding human language. Thanks to advancements in computer technology, we can now train these models more efficiently.
Addressing Concerns and Harnessing Potential
However, the rapid growth of AI also raises some concerns. It could potentially impact lower-skilled workers and economically disadvantaged regions disproportionately. There are also concerns about biases in AI systems.
Empowering Faculty and Students
STARTER is a project by the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) aimed at establishing a strong foundation for AI-powered research and education. We want to empower faculty and students to become experts in AI technologies and enable them to conduct their own AI projects.
The students above have taken the leap toward the future and have begun their research in AI.
Building an AI-Aware Community
By creating an AI-aware community, STARTER will drive sustainable growth in AI-powered research and education, not just within the university but also beyond its boundaries.
